A Note from Dean
Thank you for spending some time here. This website exists to teach the Bible plainly, point people to Jesus Christ, and help believers understand what God’s Word actually says.
I am not here to tell people what they want to hear. If the Bible says something clearly, I am going to say it clearly. Sometimes truth steps on toes, but if that causes someone to stop, think, repent, or get serious about following God, then so be it.
I do not believe Christians need more watered-down teaching. We need the truth.
If something here challenges what you believe, do not just take my word for it. Open your Bible, read the passage, and ask, “What does God say?”
I will get things wrong at times. If Scripture shows me I am wrong, I want to correct it. But I will not soften what God has made clear just because the truth is unpopular.
My goal is not to win arguments. My goal is to teach Christ.

I was raised on a ranch near Lance Creek in eastern Wyoming. Ranch life taught me about hard work, responsibility, and facing life as it comes. I later served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971.
The most important day of my life was January 24, 1974. That was the day I gave my life to Jesus Christ. More than 52 years have passed since then. I have not always gotten everything right, but Christ has remained faithful through every single season of my life.
At the age of 40, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern New Mexico University. I have worked as a cowboy, ranch hand, welder, correctional officer, and pastor. But I never expected to become a writer. That changed in April 2024, when I felt the Lord leading me to begin writing about His Word.
Since then, I have written many Bible essays and several books. I write The Other Side of Amen blog and a weekly newspaper column carried by five Wyoming newspapers. I also share daily Bible teachings, essays, and Scripture through Facebook, Pinterest, and Substack.
The mission of The Other Side of Amen is simple:
>Lead the lost to salvation through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
>Teach believers the absolute truth of God’s Word.
>Call out false teachers and warn against false teaching.
>Call Christians to live what they claim to believe.
I try to keep everything biblical, plain, and easy to understand.
I am an old Wyoming cowboy, a Marine Corps veteran, a former pastor, a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Christian writer, and Bible teacher. But above everything else, I am a follower of Jesus Christ.
I'm getting old, and I don't have the time to play nice or worry about stepping on toes. You're going to get the unvarnished Dean Butler, straight from the Bible.
