Have you ever wondered if God has a plan for your life? Maybe you're trying to decide what career to pursue, whom to marry, or where your life is going. You pray for direction, but nothing seems clear. What if you make the wrong decision? Could you miss the life God intended for you?

The Bible tells us that God has a purpose for those who belong to Him. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” God has work for His children to do, but that does not mean He has promised to reveal every detail of our future.

Sometimes people quote Jeremiah 29:11 as a promise that God has a wonderful plan for everyone's life. But those words were originally spoken to the people of Israel during their exile in Babylon. We should not turn that promise into a guarantee that everything in our lives will work out the way we want.

So what does God actually want for your life? In 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Paul writes, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification.” In other words, God wants His children to grow in holiness and become more like Jesus Christ. He wants us to obey His Word, turn away from sin, love others, and live in a way that honors Him.

But what about choosing a career, finding a husband or wife, or making important decisions? God has given us His Word, the ability to think, and the opportunity to seek wise counsel. We can pray for wisdom and make responsible decisions without expecting God to give us a special sign for every choice.

James 4:15 reminds us, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” We can make plans while recognizing that God remains in control. Sometimes our plans will succeed, and sometimes doors will close. Neither outcome automatically tells us whether we have pleased or disappointed God.

Here is something worth remembering. You do not have to discover some hidden plan before you can begin living for God. If you do not know Jesus Christ, your first need is to repent and believe in Him. If you already belong to Him, begin by obeying what He has clearly told you in Scripture.

You may not know what your life will look like five years from now, and that is all right. God has not promised to show you the entire road ahead. He has called you to trust Him and follow Jesus Christ today.
