The Walk

When I was eighteen, I decided to take a walk. I pulled my white skirts up over my bare feet and I walked down splintering stairs, across a gravel drive, onto a thistle patch, over a smooth wooden bridge, then lightly over a lush green lawn to my future. I was young, but I remember the feeling of every step up that aisle, I knew that some steps were going to be painful, but I welcomed it knowing that life isn't always daisies and sunshine. I stepped forward and took Travis's hand and his name. As we walked back up the aisle together the steps I took with him weren't as painful, but were still as memorable. Our married life has been like that walk. It still hurts sometimes, but the pain is less when we walk it together, and there's still that sense of wonder, excitement, and pride to be walking next to this strong, honest, kind, intelligent and somewhat eccentric man that I get to call my husband. Today marks eighteen years married, and as I've now been married to him half my life, I can honestly call him my better half! I thank God for you every day. I love you, Pete!
