Many Christians hear the words “God’s blessing” and immediately think of money, possessions, health, success, or having life go the way they hoped. Those things can be blessings, but they are not the greatest blessings God gives.

Some of the richest blessings God can pour into a person’s life cannot be held in the hand, deposited in a bank, or measured by anything this world considers valuable.

Jesus said:

“These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.” John 15:11

A heart made full is something money cannot buy.

There is a joy that comes when you begin to see God using your life. There is something almost impossible to explain when you realize that something you said, something you wrote, something you gave, or something you quietly did in obedience to God has touched another person.

It is not pride, and it is not, “Look what I did.” It is the exact opposite. It is realizing, “God allowed me to be part of what He is doing.”

That will humble you.

Jesus said:

“The one who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithful in much.” Luke 16:10

We often want God to give us something big. We want a great opportunity, a large ministry, or visible results, but God often begins with something small.

It may be a conversation, a person who needs encouragement, a lesson nobody seems to notice, a small act of obedience, or a door that does not look very important. The question is whether we will be faithful with what He has already placed in front of us.

Jesus gave the same principle in the parable of the talents:

“Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:21

Notice what the reward included. It included joy.

We sometimes think the blessing is being given more, but perhaps the greater blessing is the joy of knowing that your life is being used in the will of God. That is worth more than gold.

There have been times in my own life when God allowed me to see small glimpses of what He was doing through something I had placed in His hands. I hesitate even to mention that because I never want this to become a story about me. It is not about me. It is about Him.

I only mention it because I wish every Christian could understand what it feels like to realize that God has taken something ordinary and used it for His purpose.

You cannot buy that feeling, manufacture it, or chase after it. It comes as you surrender yourself to God and faithfully walk where He leads.

That does not mean obedience will make you wealthy. It does not mean you will become famous, and it does not mean everything you touch will succeed.

Some of the most faithful believers who have ever lived suffered greatly and saw very little visible fruit during their lifetime. The blessing is not that God makes your plans succeed. The blessing is that you stop living for your plans and begin living for His.

There is a tremendous difference.

Many believers spend years asking God to bless what they want to do. Perhaps the better prayer is, “Lord, show me what You are doing, and let me be part of it.”

When you begin living that way, something changes. Your idea of blessing changes.

You stop measuring God’s goodness by what you own. You stop deciding whether God loves you by how easy your life is, and you stop looking for blessing only in what God gives you. You begin seeing blessing in what He does through you.

David wrote:

“In Your presence is fullness of joy.” Psalm 16:11

That is the blessing many people never understand. It is not a fuller bank account, a bigger house, or an easier life. It is a fuller heart.

It is a heart filled with gratitude, a heart amazed that God would use an ordinary person, and a heart satisfied simply to know that you are walking where He wants you to walk.

I pray every believer experiences that.

Be faithful with what God has already placed in your hands. Obey Him when nobody notices. Serve Him when the task seems small, and walk in His will even when you cannot see where it is leading.

When God chooses to let you see that He has used your life for His purpose, you may discover something this world could never give you.
