The world is filled with religions, spiritual teachers, and different ideas about how people can reach God. Many believe that all religions lead to the same place and that Jesus is simply one religious leader among many. That may be a popular belief, but it is not what the Bible teaches.

Jesus made a claim that leaves no room for other paths to God.

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.’” (John 14:6).

Jesus did not say that He was one of many ways to God. He said that He is the way. He did not claim merely to teach the truth. He said that He is the truth. He did not simply promise a better life. He said that He is the life.

Jesus is different because He is more than a prophet, preacher, or moral teacher. He is God the Son who came into the world in human flesh.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1).

John later explained who the Word is.

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14).

Jesus did not begin His existence when He was born in Bethlehem. He existed before His human birth because He is eternal. He came into the world to reveal the Father and save sinners.

Jesus is also different because He lived without sin. Every religious leader, prophet, preacher, and teacher is a sinner in need of salvation. Jesus alone lived in perfect obedience to the Father.

“One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15).

Because Jesus had no sin of His own, He could take our sins upon Himself. He did not die merely as an example of love or courage. He died as the perfect sacrifice for sinners.

“He Himself brought our sins in His body up on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by His wounds you were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24).

Jesus is also the only Mediator between God and humanity. We cannot reach God through good works, religious ceremonies, church membership, or another human being.

“For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all.” (1 Timothy 2:5–6).

The Old Testament also pointed forward to the coming of Christ. Micah 5:2 foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Isaiah 53 described the suffering Servant who would be wounded for our wrongdoings and bear the sins of many. Jesus did not appear without warning. God had been revealing His plan long before Christ came into the world.

The resurrection also separates Jesus from every other religious leader. Jesus died and was buried, but He did not remain in the grave.

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4).

The resurrection was not simply a spiritual idea. Jesus rose bodily from the dead. His victory over death proved the truth of His claims and gives believers the assurance that they will also have eternal life.

“Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.” (Romans 6:9).

Because of who Jesus is and what He accomplished, salvation is found in Him alone.

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

This does not mean Christians should treat people of other beliefs with disrespect. We should speak the truth with love, but loving people does not mean pretending that every belief is true. If Jesus is the only Savior, then telling others about Him is one of the most loving things we can do.

Jesus Christ is different from every other religious leader because He is God the Son, He lived without sin, He died for our sins, and He rose from the dead. He is the only Mediator between God and humanity and the only way to the Father.

Jesus did not come merely to give us another religion. He came to save us from our sins and reconcile us to God. The question is not whether we respect Jesus as a great teacher. The question is whether we have trusted Him as Savior and submitted to Him as Lord.
