God is the eternal Creator of everything. He was not created, He did not begin as a man, and He did not become God. He has always been God, and He will always be God.
“Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God” (Psalm 90:2).
There has never been another true God, and there never will be. God said:
“Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me” (Isaiah 43:10).
God also said:
“I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me” (Isaiah 44:6).
The Bible does not teach that God was once a man who worked His way toward becoming God. It does not teach that human beings can someday become gods. God alone is God. He is separate from everything He created.
God is Spirit. Jesus said:
“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).
God is not a man with human weaknesses. He does not lie, grow old, become tired, learn new things, or make mistakes.
“God is not a man, that He would lie, nor a son of man, that He would change His mind” (Numbers 23:19).
God created the heavens, the earth, and everything in them. He did not form the world from something that existed before Him. Everything exists because He commanded it to exist.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).
God is all-powerful. Nothing is too difficult for Him, and no one can prevent Him from accomplishing His purpose.
“Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You” (Jeremiah 32:17).
God knows everything. He knows our words before we speak them, our thoughts before we express them, and every hidden part of our lives. Nothing can be concealed from Him.
“And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer” (Hebrews 4:13).
God is present everywhere. There is no place where we can escape His presence. David wrote:
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” (Psalm 139:7).
God is holy. He is completely pure and without sin. He never does anything wrong, and everything He does is righteous.
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come” (Revelation 4:8).
Because God is holy, He cannot ignore sin or pretend that it does not matter. He is a righteous Judge, and every person is accountable to Him. Yet God is also loving, merciful, and patient. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save sinners who could never save themselves.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
God has revealed Himself as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These are not three gods. There is one God. The Father is God, Jesus Christ the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. This truth may be difficult for our limited minds to understand fully, but we must accept what God has revealed about Himself.
God does not change. His character, truth, and promises remain the same.
“For I, the Lord, do not change” (Malachi 3:6).
We do not have the right to create our own idea of God. We must know Him as He has revealed Himself in Scripture. A god invented by human beings cannot save anyone.
The true God is eternal, uncreated, all-powerful, all-knowing, present everywhere, holy, righteous, loving, and unchanging. He created us, He rules over us, and we are accountable to Him.
There is only one true God, and we can come to Him only through His Son, Jesus Christ.
